Empty Vessels

‘Empty Vessels’

bisqued ceramic

In response to death and desertion.

The four chambers of his heart became empty, as did my own, as did the hearts of those nearest. 100 times a day I wished that none of us had become empty vessels.

This work was created fervently and passionately in mourning.
100 empty vessels
The four colours of the clay represent the four elements of which we are all composed and which are required to create with this medium, earth, fire, water and air. They also signify the 4 chambers of the heart. The imperfections in the forms and their irregularity as a whole reflects humanity and its mortality.
The Empty vessels installation is my response to death. Individually they represent the empty feeling of desertion that follows.
